County Durham drug testers eye up public sector market

A County Durham-based drugs and alcohol testing firm is hoping to target the public sector with alcohol testing for teachers.

CSI, which employs 16 and has recently invested £1 million in its laboratories at NETPark, is calling for increased testing of teachers.

The firm provide independent drugs and alcohol laboratory analysis, workplace investigations, 0800 whistle blowing services and training packages to employers.

Now CSI’s founder and managing director Trevor Hall is looking to corner the market in teacher testing as the firm looks to grow its workforce to 51 by the end of the year.

Mr Hall said the Department for Education has tight controls on people working on school sites such as cleaners and building contractors, but suggested more could be done to scrutinise teachers.

He added: “CRB checks are not a complete answer to the historical activities of an individual’s undetected criminal activity around drug abuse.”

In May, CSI will begin to deliver a programme of seminars in the North East to raise awareness of drugs and alcohol abuse - and how employers can protect their workers and boost productivity.

The first seminar “The Silent Majority” - will be held on Thursday 15th May at Redworth Hall Hotel, Darlington with leading speakers from the medical profession, the police and industry.
