Local Gatwick businesses hear about the changing face of finance

Businesses around the Gatwick area met on Wednesday evening to hear how the role of the Finance Director has changed and developed over time.

Steve Swientozielskyj, FCMA, CGMA, business author and fellow lecturer, spoke at the event, organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, and explained his analysis of the roles of both the Finance Director and senior finance executives.

Steve said: “The role of the finance director has changed enormously over time and it is important for management accountants and other business people to understand not only what is expected of the role now, but the history of how it has changed and developed. Having a perception of this enables management accountants to provide the best service and advice possible to their clients.”

In explaining to attendees what was expected of these two important business roles in the past, and comparing it to what is now expected, Steve’s presentation included an insight into business partnerships, change management and finance transformation issues. He outlined his ‘Steveski Six Stage model of business partnering’ which covers the formation of business partnerships and how to establish agreements and develop competence and trust. It also ensures business partners adapt to change, deliver the right outcomes and improvement and support change.

Steve Swientozielskyj has developed research papers in conjunction with Hackett, CIMA and Loughborough on his leading-edge practices. He has several years of change management experience in multi-national and blue chip national organizations and his primary expertise is in dealing with complex business and finance change issues within large complicated organisations.
