Eat, drink & stay happy in Harrogate at The Food & Wine Place

“Eat, Drink, Be Happy” is the raison d’être for The Food & Wine Place and adorns the blackboard behind the well stocked bar, Based in Harrogate, found to be the happiest place to live in the UK last year, this phrase is particularly suitable for the residents of the Victorian spa town in North Yorkshire.

The Food and Wine Place opened its doors in Harrogate in November 2013 and has fast become an popular venue for friends and families to meet and enjoy a monthly-changing, locally sourced menu with expertly selected wine. With excellent reviews on trust pilot both locals and visitors are impressed with the menu and the welcoming interior.

Owner, Catherine Ward-Brown won UK Amateur Sommelier of the Year back in 2011 and in the thirteen years since has clearly became an expert at pairing wine with delicious menu choices. One reviewer on Trip Advisor said “We first dined with friends quite soon after it opened and opted for the wine recommendations for each course ..the food was amazing and the wines complimented our choices superbly.”

With such a passion for locally sourced ingredients and having expert sommelier skills, it was important to Catherine that the restaurants interior reflected the quality and attention to detail of the menu. Seating was very important for the interior of the venue to ensure all guests can relax, so Hill Cross, an international manufacturer in bespoke furniture for the hospitality sector based in North Yorkshire were chosen to supply custom made Banquette seating and Side chairs to match the interior. Catherine says: “Just as the ingredients of the menu are sourced from North Yorkshire, it was important that contractors and suppliers are locally sourced so It was great to find an expert furniture manufacturer locally to develop the seating I wanted for the restaurant. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hill Cross as a supplier.”

“Welcoming” and “Relaxing” are two popular phrases to describe the restaurant from reviews and this is an ode to the sumptuous seating and earthy tones of the restaurant. The restaurant is fully inclusive and accessible, with easy ground floor access for wheelchairs and is fully welcoming for families; quality high chair are available, as well as baby changing facilities.
