The Monastery named UK’s Best Unusual Venue for record third year

The Monastery Manchester has scooped the Best UK Unusual Venue for the third time at the Meeting and Incentive Travel Industry (M&IT) Awards in London.

No other venue has ever achieved this in the 26 year history of the awards that were established in 1988.

In the presence of more than one thousand industry professionals, the grade II* listed building won Gold for Best UK Unusual Venue, retaining the title for a third consecutive year.

The M&IT Industry Awards ceremony is organised by Meetings & Incentive Travel magazine and rewards excellence of service and product across the events sector.

Paul Griffiths, Chairman of The Monastery Manchester said: “We’re the only venue to feature in the Best UK Unusual Venue finals for four consecutive years, and it’s marvellous to retain the title for a record-breaking third time.

“Last year was our 150th anniversary and it was truly remarkable. We had the honour of hosting Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh for lunch in November. We continue to welcome back a great deal of repeat business including the Radio Academy Awards, which have selected us for their national event for four years now.

“It’s events like this that generate a total GVA (Gross Value Added) of £4.3 million into Manchester’s economy, indirectly supporting a great many jobs in and around the city.”

Lizzie Harwood, The Monastery’s Sales and Marketing Director added: “These are the Oscars of the conference sector so to win for a third year running is just fantastic, not only for us but for Manchester.

“It is our clients that have taken the trouble to vote for us and this means a lot. And because the awards are also independently audited, they provide a true reflection of best practice in the sector in each category. I think we deserve to give ourselves a pat on the back!”
