Economic Recovery a Key Theme at Business Event

Will Holman, who represents the Bank of England in Yorkshire and the Humber was the keynote speaker at the latest Raworths Breakfast Club held recently at Bettys’ Imperial Rooms. His talk on Monetary Policy as the Economy Recovers was a unique insight into how the Bank of England works with business and its policies in relation to the UK’s economic recovery.

For local businesses represented at the event, the talk gave not only valuable background to the decisions made by the Bank of England during recent years but supported this with information on likely trends on credit and mortgage rates going forward. This insight is important to businesses looking to expand and invest in the coming months and Will Holman was also able to answer specific questions on the regional economy and its role in the national picture. Will Holman is Deputy Agent for the Bank in Yorkshire and the Humber. Before joining the Bank, Will worked as an economist in the private sector and in government, most recently at an economics consultancy and the communications authority Ofcom.

Other speakers were Matt Hill, senior associate in the Dispute Resolution Unit at Raworths who spoke on factors businesses should consider before entering into leases on commercial properties and Victoria Notman, solicitor in the Employment Unit whose talk was entitled ‘The Enemy within: Employer’s Guide to Protecting your Business’s most Valuable Assets’ and focussed on protecting a business’s assets when key employees leave.

Will Holman of the Bank of England says: ‘Engaging with local businesses is hugely important for the Bank of England, so I was very happy to have the chance to share the Bank’s message about the economy. There was lots of interest from guests about prospects for national and regional recovery.’

Zoe Robinson, managing partner at Raworths says: ‘We are delighted that local business owners continue to regard our Breakfast Club as an important date in their calendar as demonstrated by the support that our bi-annual event receives. Speakers of the calibre of Will Holman of the Bank of England, Gary Verity of Welcome to Yorkshire and Nick Jenkins of Moonpig are a significant attraction to local businesses and we aim to continue with this high level of guest speaker at future events.’
