FES International sets its ‘site’ on expansion

Construction work on a new manufacturing and testing facility for North East oil and gas engineering firm FES International is now underway.

The extension to FES’ premises (in Ashington) is part of an ambitious business development plan where the firm expects to fill six additional positions within the coming months and has set itself a target of doubling its turnover within the next five years.

The site expansion is being carried out by Northern Structures and is expected to be completed by the middle of March, 2014 at which point the Ashington site will span 12,000 sq ft. FES International has received 25 per cent of the expansion costs funding from Northumberland County Council’s ARCH programme.

The business, which specialises in manufacturing fluid transfer systems for subsea oil and gas extraction employs 36 people in the North East, and has a further 450 people in its global supply chain.

243 of FES International’s flagship diverless bend stiffener connector (DBSC) units are in operation across the globe and 68 are currently under construction. The business has also invested £700,000 in research and development.

FES International’s managing director, Rob Anderson, said: “The need to expand our facilities is indicative of recent successes - we’re growing, and fast. It’s just the next step for us as we increase our offering in a bid to meet ever growing client demand. Recent contract wins and product development projects mean we are in good shape for meeting our targets for 2014.”

FES International has recently been awarded contracts by Aker Solutions, Technip and Talos ERT.
