Online makeover for Barnsley environmental firm with site in Sudan

Barnsley environmental solutions company Oceans ESU has collaborated with business growth specialists Innovate Now.

Oceans-ESU, which is based at Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre, has seen an unprecedented increase in business as a result of an online and strategic makeover from Innovate Now.

Oceans-ESU is involved in waste water treatment technologies, from single domestic sewage treatment, to the world’s largest reed bed water filtration system on a 2000 hectare site in the Sudan, Africa.

The company also offers other kinds of monitoring and remediation work to large customers within the UK including Sainsburys and ASDA.

The volume of work increased significantly due to the involvement of Innovate Now through the clarification of the value proposition and the restructuring of their website.

When Oceans-ESU first began working with Innovate Now in 2011, the website and marketing material was limited. However, this was quickly amended, and as a result, Oceans ESU has seen a sudden increase in business.

There has been a significant uplift in reed bed enquiries from within the UK as well as worldwide, including countries such as Chile, Indonesia and China which are all new markets.

The website is now very clear on what the business does, and as a result of additional enquiries and growth, 4 new jobs have been created.

Mike Kilroy, director of Innovate Now

Mike Kilroy, director of Innovate Now, also introduced Oceans ESU to invaluable contacts and available markets that had not been utilised by the business prior to 2011, many of which have also materialised into new business.

He said: “Although Innovate Now’s work with Oceans ESU started out as a 10 day contract, it has now been going on for three years and continues to be ongoing.”

“Our working relationship with Oceans ESU has moved from only being a consultant to that of being a strategic partner working alongside and identifying new opportunities and potential collaborations as well.”

Michelle Gill, Director of Oceans ESU, said: “The impact of Innovate Now on the business has been huge and instant. As soon as we were introduced, Mike helped us construct a new marketing strategy as well as a new website.

“As soon as this was done we saw a very positive increase in enquiries many of which have led to business.”

Oceans ESU senior consultant Robert Large, added: “We were looking to reach new markets, especially in the UK and Eastern Europe. Mike helped us to make the most of opportunities that are out there.”

“Due to this support, growth is being boosted and the company expects that profits should increase this financial year by 73%.”

Innovate Now keeps in regular contact with Oceans ESU to discuss how the business is going and support its future growth.
