Free Recycling site launches and announces tie up with British Heart Foundation

Imagine being able to get rid of all those unwanted but perfectly usable items like sofas, printers, mobile phones and bedding without adding to the UK’s landfill problem while helping good causes at the same time. After a year in development, Recycle.co.uk has launched fully and is proud to announce a partnership with leading charity; The British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Recycle.co.uk allows you to list any unwanted items free of charge on the site. Charities may choose to pick them up, free of charge and either sell them on to raise funds or re-use them. A hostel for the homeless might value duvets and sofas and use them directly, whereas mobile phones may be resold to raise cash. If, after 48 hours, there are no takers among the good causes, anyone registered on the site, anywhere in the UK can collect your goods free of charge.

The site which is the brainchild of founders Doug Scott and Richard Young was developed as a response to the ever growing problem of serviceable products going to landfill for the want of any sensible way of recycling them. “We are delighted to have BHF on board and hope we can help them raise thousands of pounds by just helping people get rid of stuff they don’t need any longer,” commented co-founder Richard Young.

Karen O’Donoghue, BHF National Stock Generation Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Recycle.co.uk. It’s just a really simple way to raise funds and we hope people will just naturally think ‘Recycle.co.uk and BHF’ every time they have a clear out. This is the sort of innovative thinking that will help us raise vital funds in the fight for every heartbeat.”

The service operates on a nationwide basis which means that, unlike other recycling sites, you don’t have to join a group in each locality where you might want to pick up items. It is also possible to set up an email reminder to let you know when a particular item you are interested in becomes available.

According to Young, “Recycle.co.uk aims to keep the process as simple as possible with no strings, no hidden charges and no catches.”

Users can register at www.recycle.co.uk or via Facebook. Once registered, they can list any items they want to recycle and await a contact from fellow recyclers to arrange pick-up. Because, after 48 hours the item is open to everyone on the site there is a better chance that your items will be picked up even if the good causes cannot make use of them.
