Promising engineers receive ICE scholarship boost
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has awarded two promising civil engineers with a well-respected scholarship to help develop their careers.
Scott Fenwick, a part-time student at Newcastle College and trainee technician at AECOM in Newcastle, and Ben Purdham, who is a civil engineer apprentice at Capita and also studies at Newcastle College, were both successful in their applications for ICE’s QUEST Technician Scholarship.
The QUEST Technician Scholarship provides support to students with technical and practical engineering experience, who are studying courses that could lead to a professional qualification as an Engineering Technician.
Scott, 23, from Gateshead, and Ben, 18, who is from Carlisle, were both prompted to apply for ICE’s renowned scheme after performing well throughout their studies, which included a written personal statement, qualification information and references from employers.
Penny Marshall, interim director of ICE North East, said: “The QUEST scholarship attracts students with a real aptitude for engineering, and Scott and Ben both possess the qualities worthy of this award. It is a pleasure to present them with these awards, which will be a boost to both of their careers.
“I would like to wish Scott and Ben all the best with their studies and in their promising careers as civil engineers.”
Andy Stephenson, Director of the School of Construction, Engineering and Science at Newcastle College, said: “I am delighted that Scott and Ben have been awarded an ICE scholarship. This support will help them with their studies and is a badge of excellence which will be a great boost to their future career.”
