Keepmoat awarded £1.5m heating contract

National housing and regeneration specialist, Keepmoat has secured a £1.5m heating contract with Renfrewshire Council that will see up to 750 homes benefit from heating upgrades.

The contract is the latest phase of a major £138 million housing improvement programme by the council that will bring properties up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS).

This latest phase of works will see upgrades of electric storage heating systems to gas central heating which will benefit homeowners for many years to come.

Keepmoat has been working in partnership with Renfrewshire Council on the SHQS investment for the past three years delivering 2,500 kitchen, bathroom and rewiring upgrades, external works to 900 main door properties and 1,500 central heating upgrades.

Eamonn McGarvey, Keepmoat’s Regional Director, said: “The latest phase in this improvement programme will have a huge impact on the lives of people living in council homes across Renfrewshire.

“These heating upgrades will mean their homes are more energy efficient, reducing bills and allowing tenants to heat their houses effectively.

“Keepmoat together with the council is working hard to bring a warm feeling to people across Renfrewshire, not only by improving homes but working with local residents to deliver regeneration that works.”

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: “The heating upgrade programme is a key part of this massive investment in our council homes. Now we are nearing the final stretch of the SHQS programme a big focus will be on the heating upgrades so our tenants will benefit from modernised, more energy efficient and cost-effective systems.”

As well as the tenants directly benefitting from new heating systems, the wider community is also benefitting from the council’s partnership with Keepmoat.

Significant community benefits have also been delivered as part of the partnership, including the employment of 47 local residents, work experience placements, local football sponsorships, community days and refurbishing kitchens in sheltered housing complexes.

Over five years, the Council’s improvement programme will bring all of the council’s 13,000 properties up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS) with a major programme of internal and external improvements.
