Senior lawyer puts down roots at Clarke Mairs LLP

A North East commercial law firm is welcoming an experienced solicitor to its growing team.

Rachel Swinburne, whose legal career spans more than 20 years, has been appointed by Clarke Mairs LLP in Newcastle city centre following 19 years as a senior solicitor at Swinburne and Jackson’s at both their Gateshead and Hexham offices.

She is now making the move from the Northumberland market town to the heart of Newcastle to bolster the firm’s private client department, and will advise clients on all aspects of wills and estate planning, trusts, succession planning and inheritance tax.

The mother of three qualified as a solicitor in 1994 at the College of Law in York, and worked at Grays Solicitors in the city for three years before moving to the North East.

Rachel said: “I’m delighted to join Clarke Mairs, which is a thriving company with an impressive reputation and a helpful, friendly team. It’s a great environment to work in and I’m looking forward to building on the excellent services that the private client division provides.”

Tim Clarke, senior partner at Clarke Mairs, said: “We launched a private client division four years ago to reflect the need for expert advice for our commercial clients when they consider their personal matters, and we are confident that it will continue to grow successfully with Rachel on board.

“Rachel has vast experience and contacts in the private client sector, and is a very welcome addition to our team. She is not only a highly skilled lawyer, but also has the character that we look for in our new recruits, in order to work well within our team and build strong, long term relationships with our clients.

“It’s a particularly exciting time for Rachel to join Clarke Mairs, as we are moving into new city centre premises where we’ll have more room for continued expansion.”

Clarke Mairs LLP will be relocating from Newcastle’s Royal House on Market Street to larger 7,000 square foot city centre premises on Hood St this month.

However, though Rachel is adopting an urban working life at Clarke Mairs, she stays rooted to a rural lifestyle at her home near Bardon Mill in the Tyne Valley with her family, where she enjoys gardening, growing her own vegetables and keeps her own hens and pigs.

Rachel is also highly involved in the local community, as she sits on the Steering Committee for the Hexham Book Festival, which takes place from 24 April - 8 May 2014, featuring such high profile names as Ian Rankin and Val McDermid. She is also a trustee for various charities.

Clarke Mairs offers legal services to businesses and individuals nationwide with services including commercial property, insolvency, company and employment law. It is ranked in the Legal 500 and Chambers 2014 listings and is LEXCEL accredited through the Law Society.
