Chorley homes development will support young people

Construction and development specialist Southdale is preparing to start work on an exciting regeneration project to create 24 new homes in the heart of Chorley, Lancashire.

The project, in partnership with The Adactus Housing Group, is a £1.8m redevelopment of a former nursing home site on Hodder Avenue and will create a range of educational opportunities, as well as safeguarding apprenticeships.

Southdale has been appointed to design and build the homes, which include 14 apartments, eight houses and two bungalows, all available for affordable rent and will be managed by Chorley Community Housing.

A total of four apprenticeships will be safeguarded as young people and education will form a major part of the operations on and around the site. Workshops will help 15 students learn more about the construction industry, while three work experience placements will be created.

Designed by architects the Bernard Taylor Partnership, the homes will all be built using traditional methods and to Code For Sustainable Homes Level 3, with completion expected at the end of 2014.

Neil Hughes, Project Manager at Southdale, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Southdale and Adactus Housing Group to regenerate this site and create high quality, affordable homes for local people. The creation of educational opportunities for young people in Chorley is something we are very excited by, because supporting the communities in which we work is something upon which we pride ourselves.”

Garnet Fazackerley, Assisstant Director of Development at Adactus Housing Group said “We are delighted to embark on yet another partnership that will not only enable us to deliver more affordable homes in Chorley but also help young people from the Borough gain skills in the construction industry. We would like to thank our partners Chorley Borough Council for making the site available and the HCA for helping with the funding to realise this development.”
