Leeds entrepreneurs at Red’s True Barbecue win best UK venue award

A Leeds restaurant has been named best venue in the UK at a national awards ceremony.

Red’s True Barbecue, the smokehouse restaurant on Call Lane, Leeds, was recognised at the Retailer’s Retailer of the Year Awards, held in London.

Red’s picked up best venue, which is awarded to an outstanding UK venue, be it in terms of design, offer, operating format, service or trading performance.

Other finalists included Trinity Kitchen Leeds, The Botanist, Leeds, Grain Store, London, Graze, Bath and Merchants Tavern, Shoreditch.

James Douglas, co-founder at Red’s, said: “We never went to the awards expecting to win, simply being nominated amongst such company was great.

“Scott and I came into this game, not knowing a thing about running restaurants, so to win this accolade after only being operational for just over 18-months is such an honour.

“We continue to serve more than 17,000 people each month in our 107 capacity Leeds restaurant, and so we’d like take this opportunity to thank all our believers who have supported Red’s since opening, helping to make it the success that it is.”

The Retailer’s Retailer of the Year Awards is unique in that nominations and votes are made by senior executives from the bar and restaurant industry itself.

Last month Red’s True Barbecue opened its second UK restaurant in Manchester on Albert Square and has plans to open a further two this year.
