Roofing firm aims to bridge the construction skills gap
Established in 1979, the company began primarily as a roofing contractor. Over the years it has developed and diversified considerably to include building works, fencing and metalwork fabrication and, most recently, the offering of solar (pv) panels.
From it’s 20, 000 sq ft headquarters in Stanley, County Durham, the 100-man team works on projects across the country, bringing its diverse expertise to a range of construction projects.
John Sayers, Managing Director at Hodgson Sayers, said: “We are proud of our North East roots and we are committed to sourcing and developing a skilled workforce, providing employment for talented individuals working within Durham and the wider area.
“As we press ahead as a company, bridging the skills gap within the construction sector is of utmost importance to us.
“So much so, that since 2000, 20 apprentices have joined the company, all of whom are guaranteed a job with us at the end of their training. Going forward, we are looking to identify and develop the skills of more apprentices so that they equate to 10% of our workforce.
“We were thrilled to be recognised by the community for our commitment to nurturing apprentices and were shortlisted for an NE Business Award within the apprenticeship category of the Durham and Wearside final.
“We strive to achieve the highest level of client satisfaction by attaining top quality standards and we were delighted when our work with client ISOS Housing was this year recognised in London when we won a coveted London Housing Consortium (LHC) award for our work on a pitched roofing project.”
