Housebuilder cements youth sports participation

Youth sports clubs in the Rotherham area are in line for a funding boost after a housebuilder announced it offering a range of sponsorship packages.

The move is part of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire’s community and family project as it builds 180 new homes in the village of Thurcroft.

The Hedgerows development, which features three and four bedroom homes, was launched earlier this year. The housebuilder is now inviting children’s sport teams and clubs in and around the area to stake a claim for support.

Simon Whalley, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “When we begin on such large developments we are not just building homes but laying the foundations for a new community and we always look at how we can support the local community.

“If you’re a football, cricket, hockey, netball or rugby club and are looking for sponsorship to help increase the number of children playing sport, then we want to hear from you.

“The money can be used for anything, as long as it benefits the local community and helps encourage new members; this could be anything from a new kit or equipment to help with renovating a training facility.

“Priority will go to clubs in and around Thurcroft. However, we will consider clubs in the surrounding area, depending on the level of support the team require.”

To apply for sponsorship, clubs are asked to email wendy.reece@persimmonhomes.com giving the reasons why their team or club deserves financial support and how they would use the money. This must include the team’s name, an overview of the club’s history, plus its size and training location.

The closing date for entries is 30th April 2014.
