Local MP shows her support for Liverpool City Region Talent Match
MP for Liverpool Riverside, Louise Ellman, has given the new employment scheme her full backing.
The national lottery funded campaign was recently launched to get young people across the country back into employment. Merseyside Youth Association was awarded £6.5m of the funding to develop the unique programme.
Liverpool City Region Talent Match is an exciting, creative programme, for anyone who has been out of unemployment for 12months and aged 18-24, which aims to reduce unemployment figures significantly over the next five years.
Ms Ellman said: “When I heard about the Talent Match scheme I was intrigued to find out more, after meeting with the mentors I was impressed by their individual, personalised approach to unemployment amongst young people.
“I am always willing to support projects such as this. If I could give advice to the young people taking part I would say to discover the personal things you enjoy and work on building these skills to benefit your career.”
The scheme is driven by young people for young people with the help of organisations from around the city region. Every young person who takes part in Liverpool City Region Talent Match is assigned an intensive mentor to develop a personalised pathway specific to their skills and goals.
The mentors provide their expertise; advice and guidance to help those struggling with the job market to develop real skills for real jobs and identify career opportunities to meet the demands of employers.
Gill Bainbridge, chief executive at Merseyside Youth Association said: “The new scheme was introduced to focus on young people who want to get on in their career and need help to do so. We have already seen some great results across the city with 8 candidates currently undergoing interviews and one young woman already securing a full time job.
“Recent unemployment figures are disappointing but with the help of the mentors we are confident we can provide the motivation, skills and guidance young people need to succeed in finding their dream job.”
