New event springs to life at the Great Yorkshire Showground

Pony rides, bread-making and watching chicks hatch are just some of the activities on the timetable for a new children’s event which has been launched by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The Society is best known as the organiser of the annual Great Yorkshire Show.

Springtime Live takes place on Sunday 13 April at the Great Yorkshire Showground and is particularly aimed at families. One of the star attractions will be Peppa Pig, the hugely popular children’s TV character who will be appearing at intervals throughout the day.

In addition, the event will be a mix of hands on activities, entertainment and plenty of animals including lambs, goslings, chicks, piglets and calves as well as several rare breeds. Also on the timetable are falconry displays, chocolate making, rag rugging, circus skills and story time.

Nigel Pulling, Chief Executive said: “Each year around 14,000 children come to the showground to learn more about where food comes from and the vital role our farmers play in producing it. This is a message that it’s never too young to appreciate, and one we want to keep alive. It will be fun, and it will be informative, but most of all it will be engaging. We already have events for primary school children, their teachers and for teenagers looking at career choices, so it makes sense to square the circle and involve the very youngest children.”
