Israeli arthritis treatment business to bring jobs to North East

An Israeli medical firm which is pioneering a non-invasive form of therapy for knee and back pain has announced plans to set up shop in the North East within the next two years.

AposTherapy, which operates offices in Israel, New York, London and Singapore, says it intends to open branches in Bristol and the North East.

The £10 million investment will create hundreds of UK jobs over the next three years and will add to AposTherapy’s presence in Manchester, Birmingham, Ken and Sussex.

AposTherapy’s technique uses a foot-worn biomechanical device which is individually-calibrated for the user.

The announcement was made as part of David Cameron’s current visit to Israel and Palestine, where he is joined by Trade and Investment Minister Lord Livingston.

A further £50 million has been committed by Israel’s Noy Infrastructure and Engery Investment Fund to the UK’s renewable energy sector, and £12 million from pharma company Teva will go towards clinical development in the UK.

Lord Livingston said: “These announcements are testament to how the UK and Israel work successfully together. UK exports have grown steadily and we are now the third largest exporter to Israel and there are now over 250 Israeli companies operating in the UK.

“There is huge potential to increase trade and investment with Israel and the Palestinian Territories. I look forward to building on this success with the work of UKTI.”
