Barluga and Perdu entrepreneur nears launch of latest Newcastle venture
Entrepreneur David King is on the verge of launching his new pub venture, the reopening of The City Tavern in Newcastle.
The food-led bar is set to reopen to the public in late March having undergone a £250k renovation.
David has enlisted the help of Ed Theakston of the famous Theakston brewing family, who recently delivered master class in keeping and retailing cask ales.
On his recent visit to Newcastle, Ed said: “As demand for market share in the drinks retailing and leisure industry gets even tougher with competition coming not only from competing pub operators but supermarkets and other leisure outlets, it is important not to lose sight of delivering a great overall experience.
“This includes not only the condition and taste of the cask ales being served, but also the environment in which they are sold and the staff who are selling them. As a consumer we all want a positive and enjoyable experience every time we visit the pub or we won’t go back. Without this repeat trade you don’t have a business.
“It is obvious that David shares my passion for this quality and desire to run great pubs. Together these pave the way to a profitable business. It has been a pleasure to come up to Newcastle to work with him and his team, as he prepares to open his great new venue and I wish him well.”
David King, who also operates the Central Bean coffee shop chain, said: “When the City Tavern reopens later this month I want customers to come and join us in a relaxed and stylish environment .
“I don’t just want to sell food and drinks that are ok, I want our customers to enjoy great ales and great food made from local produce, so that they’ll want to come back again and again.
“To have Ed come on site and work closely with us has been tremendous. Staff now feel better equipped to give customers a great experience whether they are popping in for a drink or having a leisurely lunch.”
