Rising Merseyside music stars given chance to perform on a world stage by Crabbie’s Grand National
The Crabbie’s Grand National has once more decided to team up with Liverpool Echo journalist Peter Guy to give Merseyside musicians the chance to perform live at the world’s biggest steeplechase.
Emerging music acts from across the region can be nominated to perform in one of three slots as part of the live music offering at the three-day Crabbie’s Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse. The performers who will take part will be chosen by Peter, who runs the Liverpool Echo music blog Getintothis and Yaw Owusu, curator of the Liverpool International Music Festival and programmer for the live music at The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival.
Three acts will be selected, one for a live band set inside the Equestrian Centre and two for outdoor acoustic sets, all playing for thousands of people attending the world’s most famous steeplechase.
Nominations are now open for both bands and solo artists but performers must be aged 16 and above. The band selected to perform in the Equestrian Centre will have a 15-minute set during the Made in Merseyside concert on Saturday, while on the Steeplechase Acoustic Stage on Saturday one acoustic act will perform a 15-minute set and one will perform a 10-minute set.
The selected musicians will appear on a bill which also features chart-topping dubstep-influenced pop artist Katy B and Saturday headline act the Tea Street Band. They will also be following in the footsteps of local talent such as Stealing Sheep and Esco Williams who are previous winners of the competition. This year’s Crabbie’s Grand National Festival takes place from the 3-5 April 2014.
Jockey Club North West Regional Director John Baker said: “After last year’s success, The Crabbie’s Grand National is excited to be teaming up once again with Peter Guy and Getintothis to showcase the ongoing musical talent that the region has to offer.
“It’s a great chance for local bands and solo artists to make their name known on a global platform and perform to thousands of people. Here at Aintree Racecourse we love staging this fantastic sporting event alongside incredible live music acts.”
To enter, email the name of your act to liverpooldigitaldesk@gmail.com or tweet @Getintothis with #Aintreemusic followed by the artist’s name and a link to their website.
Applications close at midnight on Monday, March 17 and the winners will be announced on Friday, March 28.
Entrants must be available to perform at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday, April 5.
