Couchbase London User Conference Showcases Best Practices for Deploying NoSQL

UNITED KINGDOM, London – March 18, 2014 – Couchbase, the fastest-growing provider of enterprise class NoSQL databases and technologies, has announced its annual user event Couchbase Live London 2014. Held on Wednesday, 2nd April at the Congress Centre in London, Couchbase Live is a one-day, two-track NoSQL event offering attendees a unique opportunity to learn how to run NoSQL at large scale.

Amadeus and Viber Keynotes Highlight Replacing Relational Databases and MongoDB to Achieve High Performance at Large Scale with Couchbase

If you have ever booked travel online, you have likely encountered the Amadeus Availability Processing Engine, which displays travel information such as prices, flights and dates. This is a mission critical, highly interactive, big data application. In order to meet high throughput requirements and reduce the time and resources spent administering its relational architecture, Amadeus replaced 28 relational databases with Couchbase to support more than 20 terabytes of data. With peak traffic of two million objects reads per second, and 400K writes per second with an average object size of 1KB, Amadeus knows how to scale. This keynote will explain how Amadeus was able to successfully move off its limiting relational database architecture, to a modern, highly performant, scalable NoSQL Couchbase deployment.

Viber’s NoSQL System Architect Amir Ish-Shalom, will discuss how to support over 300 million users on an application managing almost one million operations per second from billions of messages and billions of talking minutes per month. Viber’s leading messaging service platform manages hundreds of millions of user accounts with almost one million new accounts added daily. Its first NoSQL deployment included a combination of MongoDB and Redis clusters; but the architecture could not scale to meet Viber’s massive scalability requirements. Viber eventually replaced its 250 Mongo and Redis dedicated servers with less than 120 Couchbase servers to meet its ever increasing requirements for managing extra large data sets with a high performance, always on, easy to manage, single database solution.

In Depth Technical Sessions Teach Hard Skills for Building, Deploying & Administering Highly Scalable NoSQL Applications

Product and customer led sessions will include case studies and technical deep dives with specific how-to examples for existing Couchbase technologies, as well as previews of new beta offerings for Couchbase Mobile and the Couchbase query language N1QL. Additionally, James Governor, from developer focused analyst group Red Monk, will moderate a panel of industry leaders who are growing their businesses with Couchbase’s NoSQL technology.

“NoSQL technology is swiftly moving from early adopter to mainstream adoption, as companies from all industries seek to emulate the success of web company approaches to scale and data management,” said James Governor, Principal Analyst and Founder at RedMonk.

“The best way to learn about new technology approaches is from other people, which is why events like Couchbase Live are important in building skills and knowledge about opportunities. Every industry has a problem they couldn’t solve with relational database technology. Well now the shackles are off.”

“This is an exciting time for Couchbase. We believe that the flexibility and scalability Couchbase brings to NoSQL customers gives them a significant competitive advantage,” said David Maitland, General Manager, EMEA at Couchbase. “We are looking forward to another successful Couchbase Live London, where we can provide a venue for developers and users to share best practices, learn from our development team and grow their relationships within the NoSQL community.”

Lightening Hackathon Challenges Developers to Build for Big Data Scale Requirements

Couchbase is challenging the best of the best to put Couchbase Server to the test. Developers across Europe are invited to determine just how scalable Couchbase Server really is. They will compete to see who can mine the most data the fastest. The more data they mine, the further they can scale. The further they scale, the more data they can mine! In this fast-paced two-hour hackathon, developers will have a chance to prove who’s who in the NoSQL community by leveraging the power of Couchbase Server.

Featured speakers at Couchbase Live London 2014 include:

  • Dietmar Fauser, VP, Architecture, Quality & Governance at Amadeus
  • Carl Lambert, Chief Architect at Ticketmaster
  • Drew Garner, Sr. Director Enterprise Architecture at Concur
  • Dave Starling, Chief Architect at Picsolve
  • Amir Ish-Shalom, System Architect at Viber
