Job creation foundation generates 13 new roles in the energy industry

A pioneering job creation foundation in Hunslet has created 13 new jobs after running a series of ‘earn as you learn’ bootcamp training programmes.

Three more graduates have now progressed into telesales roles at BE Fuel Cards which launched the foundation in August 2013.

Previously unemployed, the trio comprising Terry Barker, Chantelle Robinson and Rob Wood, had struggled to find full time roles. They are now working alongside fellow graduates who have also been employed on a £16k annual salary with the potential to ramp up their earnings as they progress.

Rob Wood said: “I’m ecstatic and now have a job which means more security and money coming in. I’m working with a fantastic team for a really great company. It’s been a learning experience and I’ve taken in so much information about the energy industry during the bootcamp.”

The foundation - which draws on non-traditional recruitment strategies to find its new employees - has forged powerful partnerships with wide-ranging organisations including the Hunslet Club and The Prince’s Trust. The training also integrates a more holistic and ‘fun’ approach and has incorporated workshops on voice training, yoga and finance.

Fellow graduate Terry Wood commented: “I’ve worked hard during the training and it’s paid off. This has been a breath of fresh air gaining employment and I couldn’t be happier.”

Bayford Foundation project leader June Forsyth said: “Our ethos at the foundation is to put something back into our communities and create long-term career opportunities for local people.

“It’s tremendous that the foundation is making a real difference to the lives of our graduates. Our ongoing commitment sees us continuing to recruit those who are in work - and the long term unemployed - and develop them to achieve things that they would previously have thought were impossible.”
