South Yorkshire FSB "declares war" on youth unemployment, teaming up with Doncaster College

According to the FSB: “Youth unemployment is the most worrying barometer of economic growth and, until it is resolved, the UK cannot genuinely claim to be on the road to recovery.

“Unemployment is known to manifest from one generation to the next, so it is vital that we act now to stem the tide of youth unemployment to break the generational cycle.”

As part of this commitment to promote apprenticeships and the more general aim of stimulating the South Yorkshire economy, the South Yorkshire Branch of the FSB is working in partnership with Doncaster College to stage an event for owners of small businesses to review progress towards establishing a 21st century South Yorkshire workforce.

The FSB’s Regional Chairman, Gordon Millward, commented: “Having great concern for the issues surrounding youth unemployment and the skills agenda, the FSB has resolved to make a difference and is taking very seriously its responsibility towards school and college leavers.

“In staging this event we are hoping to engage the employers of South Yorkshire in a concerted attempt to make an impact on youth unemployment.

“Small businesses have a major role to play and, if each one can give serious consideration to its plans for future growth, we can jointly make a serious dent in youth unemployment whilst regenerating the local economy at the same time.”
