Teenage entrepreneur grows high-flying web business

A young programmer whose dreams of joining the Air Force were grounded has gone on to set-up a fast growing web design business.

18-year-old Joseph Robson was studying for a BTEC in aviation engineering at Newcastle College’s Aviation Academy when his medical history forced him to reconsider his career options.

Whilst at the college Joseph had developed an inventory system which tracked equipment leaving the hanger for repair using iPad barcode scanners. The system proved to be such a success the college adopted it across the entire academy and Joseph began to look at career opportunities related to his programming skills.

After initially setting up website design and development company Cullerhosts in a friend’s garage in 2012, Joseph recently moved the business to new premises in Newcastle to cope with increasing demand for the company’s website and hosting services.

And having recently won a number of new clients and launching a new computer tuition service Joseph is looking to expand the Cullerhosts team.

Joseph said: “We are delighted with how successful Cullerhosts has been in such a relatively short space of time.

“Web development is a competitive market but we pride ourselves on giving all our clients, from sole traders to large enterprises a personal, bespoke service.

“Our passion for web development and web hosting allows us to provide customers with affordable products that simplify their online experience and present a professional image on a small budget.

“We are currently taking on around four new web projects a month with even more enquiries for our hosting services coming in from the UK and abroad.

“It is an incredible feeling to have started out in a garage and developed and grown the business in such a short space of time and I am very excited about what the future holds for Cullerhosts.”

Cullerhosts recently helped heating and energy specialists Geoffrey Robinson Limited launch their new website.

The Billingham- based company had an existing website which hadn’t been updated for 10 years and appointed Cullerhosts to upgrade the front and back end of the system, which previously hadn’t allowed staff to update the website’s content.

As a result the company now has a modern, user-friendly and content rich website that reflects the company’s skill and innovation.

Neal Robinson, Director at Geoffrey Robinson Limited said: “We had been in the market for a new website when Cullerhosts was recommended to us.

“We could not be more impressed with the quality of the work Joseph and his team have carried out.

“Joseph was able to advise us on all aspects of the build and what would work best for us and the company’s clear and excellent value for money pricing structure meant we were reassured there wouldn’t be any unexpected costs.

“Our new Website plays a very important role in our ongoing sales and marketing strategy and we look forward to working with Cullerhosts again in the future.”

Joseph now hopes that the move into new offices in Newcastle’s Reliance House will allow Cullerhosts to take on even more web development, networking and hosting clients and give the business the room they need to grow.

Joe said: “We’ve had a great response for our hosting services from national and international clients who are attracted by our clear pricing structure.

“This year we are hoping to add some larger business clients to our portfolio and look to add new products and services as the team continues to grow.”
