Transmit Start Ups launch in Scotland

Budding Scottish creative entrepreneurs can now set up their dream business with the help of expert guidance and a loan from Transmit Start-Ups, which has launched its business service throughout Scotland.

Transmit Start-Ups has already helped its first Edinburgh client, jeweller, Wendy Jane North. Based in St Margaret’s House, London Road, Wendy Jane, who is Edinburgh born and bred, started to make jewellery when she was only seven year’s old.

After a spell travelling abroad and living in Toronto she returned to her home city and obtained her degree in Jewellery with Technology at North Glasgow College.

Wendy said: “Transmit Start-Ups loan has been a tremendous boost to my business. I am currently launching my new collection to buyers in Historic Scotland’s retail outlets. The money has enabled me to work on my branding and advertising and to make sure my website is absolutely spot on to exploit these new markets.

Damian Baetens, director, Transmit Start-Ups with responsibility for Scotland said: “We see great potential in Scotland as there is a wealth of creativity throughout the country right from the islands in north down to the Borders. Our business helps people take the very first steps into self-employment and with our support they soon get their confidence.

“They love being their own boss and in control of their destiny. Entrepreneurs like Wendy Jane are prime examples of people who will achieve success as they have sound ideas backed by experience and a brilliant work ethic. We are delighted we have been able to help her.”

Already well-established in England, Transmit Start-Ups specialises in support for new creative businesses and capitalises on the company directors’ long-standing experience in the music industry.

In its first nine months of operating the company has already helped over 250 businesses, which have been awarded £1.5 million in loans to give them a range of essential assets from website development to kitchen fittings.

The range of businesses supported by the company includes a film-maker on the cusp of a national feature film deal, a bespoke guitar maker, a mini-screen tv producer and zombie experience events company.

Damian Baetens has been outlining Transmit Start-Ups at various events in Scotland over the last two months.

For the Scottish start up service Transmit will be working closely with Creative Scotland, Cultural Enterprise Office, The Boombox and Scottish Music Industry Association to ensure their clients get the best all-round support possible.
