Aesica led consortium wins grant for chemical manufacturing project
Newcastle-based Aesica Pharmaceuticals is at the head of a consortium that has secured a Government grant to pursue new sustainable chemical manufacturing processes.
Aesica leads Charnwood Technical Consulting, CatScI and Biocatalysts, as a consortium that has won Technology Strategy Board funding to focus on establishing an industrial biotechnology aimed at improving sustainability in manufacturing of an active pharmaceutical ingredient.
The overall project is estimated to be worth £200k and Aesica will have responsibility for the delivery of scale-up studies to determine feasibility of the technology on a bigger scale.
Dr Barrie Rhodes, director of Technology Development at Aesica said: “We are delighted that our project successfully secured such Technology Strategy Board funding and are naturally very pleased to be leading a consortium consisting of such highly experienced companies.
“At Aesica, we are committed to innovation and fostering effective partnerships to further good science. Indeed, bringing together such strong technical expertise and know-how to combine high value chemical manufacturing with industrial biotechnology is a prime example of what we are about.”
