Gott Technical Services’ hand in delivery of £5.8 million Benfield dealership

North East garage equipment supplier, Gott Technical Services, has benefited from the opening of Benfield Motor Group’s new £5.8 million dealership in Sunderland.

The Morpeth-based firm has supplied Benfield with tools for its Newcastle Road dealership with 920 sq metre workshop.

The design installed by Gott’s engineers boasts ample vehicle capacity, with technicians operating 15 service bays and two MOT bays, to cater to aftermarket demand.

Gott Technical Services director Ian Gott said: “The contract with Benfield is a great addition to our expanding portfolio of business in Sunderland. We worked alongside the Benfield team to produce an innovative facility that has two automated test lanes (ATL) in place.

“Typically an MOT station will have one bay but we are seeing more main dealers opting for an additional bay to increase testing capacity, as in this case. The workshop is also uniquely equipped with a vehicle lift that can hold up to 6.5 tonnes – there are not many dealerships that have lifts for vehicles exceeding 5 tonnes so Benfield will be able to competitively serve local businesses as a result.”

Gott Technical Services has a long-standing relationship with the motor group, working with them on several developments in recent years. Benfield has been successfully operating a temporary ‘pop up’ showroom on the Newcastle Road site since the spring of 2012, which was also a joint project between the two family-run firms.

Benfield Ford general manager Terry O’Neil added: “We are delighted with this impressive new Ford development and to be a strong presence for Ford in Sunderland. Working with Gott Technical Services has been very successful for Benfield and they have delivered the project on time, within budget and to a high specification.”

Ian concluded: “As one of the largest Ford dealerships in the North East region, it was an impressive project to work on. Sunderland will certainly prove a natural geographic fit for Benfield and we will also be seeking to work with other businesses in the area.”
