Renewable energy expands ahead of Government incentive launch

A Midlands renewable energy company is recruiting extra installers as it gears up for the introduction of a new Government incentive which will see homeowners receive cash back for using green heat technologies.

Shrewsbury-based 7 Energy is expanding its team of experts ahead of the launch of the Renewable Heat Incentive for domestic properties, which is due to go live this Spring and follows on from the successful commercial version of the scheme, launched two years ago.

Managing director of 7 Energy, Martin Dowley, said the non-domestic incentive paid out to his customers commissioning wood pellet boilers had, in many cases, been more than the annual cost of the wood pellet fuel.

“There is no doubt that the incentive schemes have boosted the renewable energy sector. We’ve seen sales of our OkoFEN wood pellet boilers increase by more than 130 per cent in the last year.

“This demand means that we have already begun expanding and plan to bring on board a number of new installers over the next year, with our first appointment this month. More will come on board as anticipated demand increases. All of the team are trained to the highest levels. Both the installer and the system being installed need to be accredited by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme to be eligible to receive the incentive. And of course, 7 Energy and our OkoFEN and new ETA range of log and wood chip boilers are all on the MCS approved list.”

The Government wants to see 750,000 renewable heat installations completed by 2020 as a result of the RHI.

“Under the scheme, households installing biomass boilers will earn 12.2p/kWh via the domestic RHI, which is due to be introduced within the next few weeks.”
