Boro Taxis reveals £1 million investment strategy

Tees Valley’s largest taxi firm has revealed a £1 million investment strategy.

Boro Taxis, which has been in existence for more than three decades, recently has spent more than £400k upgrading its fleet and plans to invest a further £600k on new vehicles during the next 12 months.

The current investment has included buying eight mini buses – five eight seaters and three 16-seaters – from Jennings Group in Middlesbrough.

The company, based in Cargo Fleet, Middlesbrough, has a policy of forging business relationships with local companies whenever possible.

Family-run Boro taxis also recently has invested in 14 four door family saloon Skodas and now has approximately 700 vehicles on its books.

The private hire company was set up in 1982 by Mohammed Bashir with just three cars. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and now has a workforce of 800, which is made up of a mixture of direct employees and self-employed drivers, all of whom are fully trained.

Boro Taxis founder, Mohammed Bashir said: “The investment in our fleet demonstrates a confidence in the market and the Tees Valley in general as well as a commitment to customer care.

“The level of business we are experiencing is really encouraging and as a result we have taken the decision to make a significant investment in our fleet, as central to the business is the quality of service we provide.

“Wherever possible we like to build up business relationships with local firms and we chose Jennings Group to supply our new mini buses due to their first class customer care and after sales service.”

Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings, added: “Jennings Group is proud to be part of the Tees Valley business community and to have been selected to supply a successful local firm such as Boro Taxis.

“We like to forge working partnerships with companies in the area and are pleased to be recognised by an organisation of Boro Taxis’ standing for meeting their high standard of requirements.”

The investment is a combination of replacing vehicles and adding to Boro Taxis’ fleet.

All of Boro Taxis’ private hire drivers are licensed with the relevant Licensing Authorities and undergo National Vocational Qualification 2 training in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving.
