RHI can drive home energy savings

The long-term savings offered by the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for households has the potential to revolutionise home efficiency, say air source heat pump manufacturer Ebac.

The company, which launched into the market last year, says the Government’s launch of the household scheme means home owners now have a stronger incentive to go green.

Tony Hird, Business Development Director of Ebac said: “Extending the RHI into households is a great way of getting home owners involved in the push to drive down greenhouse gas emissions by providing a more financially rewarding incentive to use sources of renewable energy, such as air source heat pumps.

“Until now, the short-term stop provision of the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) voucher scheme has been available, but a scheme that takes greater consideration into the longer term benefits and rewards green homeowners more financially will give greater encouragement to people to make a big change in their homes. Air Source Heat Pumps, correctly installed and designed for the UK climate, provide efficiencies of more than 400%, and give home owners a chance to safeguard against fuel prices, which are only going to increase.

“By creating an environment in which people feel renewable energy is more accessible to home owners, it can help revolutionise home energy efficiency.”

In 2013, Ebac launched into the heat pumps market, utilising more than 30 years of expertise and experience of developing and manufacturing products including dehumidifiers, as well as having produced and supplied a range of military drying equipment used in both Gulf conflicts, and air conditioners which have been installed in the London Underground Network.

They are initially offering a 5kw model in a space-saving compact version and also a 9kW model for larger properties in both a standard and compact range. All models have achieved MCS accreditation, which is necessary for customers who wish to claim the current and future Governments grants for heat pumps and are completely manufactured at their County Durham plant in the North East of England.

Ebac heat pumps contain some advanced technology features, including: • ‘A’ rated inverter driven pump to reduce power consumption and provide maximum efficiency at all temperatures. • Built-in Wi-Fi and computer software fitted as standard, enabling the installer to analyse and adjust the performance of the heat pump remotely via a website. • Intelligent Defrost system - This is an energy efficient system taken from their dehumidifier technology. Ebac’s patented Intelligent Defrost system can predict when the Hydrophilic refridgeration coils are about to freeze therefore suspending the refrigeration process allowing the coils to defrost. This gives a much more efficient defrost cycle for a higher performance and energy efficient heat pump.

Other features include a programmable quiet mode for night time running, and a range of colour options to help the heat pumps blend in better with their surroundings.
