Fifth annual awards for family firms set for May Day launch

The full line-up of categories, judges and sponsors of the fifth annual Midlands Family Business Awards will be unveiled at launch events across the region on the 1st May.

Details of the Midlands Family Business Awards 2014 will be revealed at a lunchtime event at the Library of Birmingham and ‘teatime tapas’ at Iberico Derby.

The Awards have Midlands’ accountants and business advisors Smith Cooper as headline sponsors for the fourth consecutive year.

Third generation, 100-year old family business The Wilson Organisation underwrites the not-for-profit, independent awards, and as the firm’s MD Charlotte Perkins explains, the launch events are a must-attend for family businesses:

“Full details of all aspects of the 2014 Awards will be unveiled at our launch events and family businesses from across the Midlands, of any size, sector, industry or specialism are welcome to join us and find out how they can spotlight and showcase their successes and achievements. The Awards are free to enter and this year has some great new categories alongside established ones such as the headline Family Business of the Year.

“Entries open on the 1st May too, so family businesses can find out at the events which category or categories they would like to enter; the submission process is really quick, simple and totally free.”

Since their launch, the not-for-profit Awards have raised in the region of £20,000 for charities supporting young people and enterprise.

The reigning Midlands Family Business of the Year is manufacturer Belton Massey, Europe’s largest independent manufacturer of high quality, non-original catalytic converters.
