North East entrepreneur’s campaign to get parents more quality time with kids
A growing proportion of working British parents are spending less than an hour of quality time with their children each day, a North East entrepreneur has discovered.
Weekend Box Club entrepreneur, Andy Stephenson, recently commissioned a piece of research to be used in his own marketing efforts and was staggered by the results.
The survey of over 1,100 UK parents found 40% spend less than one hour of quality time each day with their children, and just 14% managed to spend five hours each day with their children.
The 25 year-old entrepreneur has now set about on a mission to to turn this around and has won the support of the National Trust.
#PledgeOneHour is a national campaign for parents this Easter, run in association with the National Trust and Project Wild Thing.
Andy said: “No one is to blame for parents spending less time with their children, but unfortunately this is a reality and we need to help solve this problem.
“A significant proportion of people in the study said that one of the biggest barriers to spending time with their children was having an idea. We’ve built a website and the National Trust has helped us to provide a whole raft of easily accessible resources and ideas for parents.
“I don’t want to live in a world where parents and children face greater detachment due to the pressures of daily life, where children are left to entertain themselves with solitary screen time or mindless toys that fall short of adding any sensory value to their development. We can’t change the world overnight, but lots of little steps will help to break down those barriers.”
While the campaign will initially run over the Easter period, Andy hopes to make several similar #PledgeOneHour runs throughout the year.
