Hull housing budget will provide 1,300 jobs and £280 million to economy

Hull City Council has committed almost £75 million to housing works through the city’s revenue and capital housing budget.

Acording to the council, this will provide a £280 million boost to the local economy over the next five years, creating 1,300 construction jobs for the local supply chain including building contractors.

It will be one of the largest budgets for housing in the country.

The budget will be used for housing repairs, maintenance, energy efficiency improvements, improvements to sheltered housing, regeneration schemes, bringing empty homes and buildings back into use and building new homes.

Added to this will be the funding from private sector partners, housing associations, the Homes and Communities Agency and other sources with a total of over £500 million to be invested in housing projects across the city in the next five years.

Hull City Council is working with a range of partners such as Keepmoat, Compendium, Chevin, Places for People, Riverside, Pickering and Ferens and Sanctuary Housing to deliver a range of schemes.

Councillor John Black, Portfolio Holder for Council Infrastructure, said: “The allocation of £75m demonstrates the Council’s commitment to Hull’s housing and the regeneration of priority areas across the city and paves the way for private investment to follow this.

“Our partners are playing key role in achieving our housing aspirations for the city, it is also important for the local economy to create local jobs and provide work for contractors in the city.

“The regeneration schemes are playing their part in providing much needed quality and energy efficient housing to support our City Plan ambitions as well as offering homes to residents.”
