North East firms revealed as this year’s Queen’s Awards winners

A group of North East are among the ranks of this year’s Queen’s Award for Enterprise winners.

More than 160 companies have received the prestigious awards across the three categories of International Trade, Sustainable Development and Innovation.

Seven companies and one businesswoman from the region are among this year’s winners, which range from large corporates to small business.

North East firms in the International Trade category included: Middlesbrough-based CorDEX Instruments Ltd; Durham-based Ikon Geopressure; Crook-based Inoveight Limited; Wallsend-based Integrated Display Systems Ltd; JDR Cable Systems Ltd, which has Hartlepool operations and Prestwick-based Thomas Miller Claims Management Limted.

Stockton-on-Tees supplier of catalysts to the food and drink packaging sector, Catalytic Technologies Ltd, were honoured under the Innovation Award banner.

Under the Sustainable Development Award, Northumbrian Water Ltd were honoured for the second time, for their supplying of drinking water and treatment of waste water.

Elsewhere, self-employed accountant Ann Stonehouse was awarded for her services to promoting women’s enterprise in the region, both as a former director Women into the Network (WIN) and in her current capacity as chair of Assist Women’s Network.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “One of Britain’s strengths is its enterprise and I think it is important that we celebrate it. That’s why I am delighted to congratulate the 162 UK companies on winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

“In recognising their outstanding and innovative achievements, and their contribution to our economy, I hope other businesses and entrepreneurs will be inspired to follow their lead.”
