Liverpool-built BAC Mono car revealed as April’s Merseyside Innovation Award winner
The incredible BAC Mono supercar has been named the Merseyside Innovation Award winner for April.
It is the latest in a long line of awards for Briggs Automotive Company since they first unveiled the machine in 2011.
The BAC Mono is a single-seater, high performance, road legal supercar designed and built by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs and their team in Speke.
Since its launch it has been named Car of the Year by Top Gear’s tame racing driver ‘The Stig’, Track Day car of the Year by GQ Magazine and was XCAR Editors Choice for Car of the Year last year.
In addition it stars alongside the best supercars in the world in the forthcoming racing simulation game Driveclub on Sony’s Playstation 4 console. This year production of the supercar will create 60 jobs in the region.
With a body of carbon fibre composite, FIA-approved race features and statistics that include a top speed of 170mph and 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds, the BAC mono is as close as you can get to driving a Formula One car on the road.
Neill Briggs said the firm was delighted to have been crowned April’s winners of the MIA.
“Ian and I grew up in Liverpool so it is a source of immense pride that our creation has been chosen as a top Merseyside innovation,” he said.
“We both embarked on this project after working in the car industry and racing in our spare time and we wanted to create something which looked to the future of car design. The BAC Mono looks equally at home on the road as the racetrack.
“It always gets an incredible reception. Male or female, old or young, when people see it the first thing they do is take out their mobile phones and take a picture of it.
“But then when people, including journalists, drive the car they always come out thinking they are a better driver than when they got in. That is thanks to the innovative design which means the car is very forgiving when you push it.”
Presenting the April award to BAC for the BAC Mono, MIA committee member and relationship manager for NatWest Commercial banking Ian McGee said: “The team at BAC has created a vision of the future.
“The BAC Mono is advanced both technologically and in terms of design. It breaks new ground in the world of car design and development and it is very much a home-grown project.
“It is for these reasons that the BAC Mono is a deserving winner of this award.”
The Merseyside Innovation Awards committee is still accepting entries for 2014, with a winner chosen each month by the judging panel.
