Ashington High School Sports College is top of the class

Ashington High School Sports College has received national recognition for the value it adds to students’ achievements at GCSE.

A recent in-depth analysis of official Department for Education data on all state-funded schools in England by SSAT, the national schools’ membership organisation for improvement and collaboration, identified Ashington High School Sports College’s success.

The school has qualified for an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award by being in the top 20 percent of schools nationally for progress made by pupils between their key stage 2 results at primary school and their GCSE results at age 16.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:

“Ashington High School Sports College should be congratulated for their exceptional achievement. They have proved themselves to be leading the field in improving GCSE outcomes for their students. There is so much good practice that this school could share, and I hope many schools will join us at the celebration ceremony for the chance to network and share strategies with award-winning schools.

The school has been invited to receive its award at a regional celebration ceremony hosted by SSAT at Emmanuel College in Gateshead on 06 June.

Rob Kitching, Principal at Ashington High School Sports College, said: “These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, parents and staff at our school.

“It’ll be a great privilege to receive this award on behalf of our staff and students. To be recognised as one of the top schools in the UK for student progress in the critical years between key stage two and GCSE is something we have strived for and having reached this level, we won’t stand still. We will continue to look for innovative ways to improve every aspect of what we do in order to prepare our students for work, further and higher education or apprenticeships.”
