Solicitors give Students Insight into Workplace and Interviews

Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors has been thanked for helping school students prepare for the workplace, giving them practice in communication skills and interview techniques.

Kenton Bazeley, partner and Commercial Litigation specialist, and Theresa Carling, Employment Law specialist, volunteered to join the employability programme, Building My Skills, which has been developed by Esh Group, a leading construction company headquartered in the North East and client of Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors.

The programme, which has run for several years now, brings local employers into schools to demonstrate vital skills which would enhance the students’ employability. The presentations and training sessions are developed to be interesting and entertaining, and also to give students a better understanding of the workplace, and to let them experience a realistic job interview.

Kenton and Theresa worked with students from three schools, Heaton Manor School in Newcastle, Trinity Catholic College in Middlesbrough and Mortimer Community College in South Shields. Having briefed the students on best practice in interviews, a number will now come to Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors’ Wynyard offices to participate in realistic job interviews.

Kenton commented: “These students are the future of our region’s companies, which is why we were keen to share our experience with them, and give them a better understanding of what’s ahead. It’s also good for us to be more in touch with the next generation, and to understand how they are preparing for their careers.

“Esh Group has created a programme which is of obvious value to the students. We’ve enjoyed taking part, and hope to be able to continue supporting our communities’ young people into the future.”
