Castle Building Services expand with Scottish office

Hebburn-based Castle Building Services have expanded north of the border with a new East Kilbride office, creating six jobs.

The move follows a significant volume of work in Scotland for Castle, including their appointment by Bowmer and Kirkland to provide mechanical and electrical design and installation services on the £29 million speculative development, St Vincent’s Plaza in Glasgow.

Castle’s Scottish projects also include new build and major refurbishments, and elsewhere the firm is currently working on the transformation of Newcastle Central Station.

Commercial director Alan Carr said: “We see a great opportunity to replicate what we have done in the region to establish an autonomous regional office, serving its local market with a local resource of high calibre construction professionals. To that end we have appointed director Derek Reid to head up the office.

“Derek is well known in Scotland and the North East of England from his previous role with a leading building contractor.

“Although trading conditions still remain challenging we see a confidence returning to the industry across the UK and, based on the Scottish Building Federation’s Q1 trading figures, we are confident that the time is right to make this decision. Derek and his team will be fully supported by our excellent staff based at head office.”

Castle, which in its current financial year will turnover £20 million, was founded by commercial director, Allan Carr and operations director, Tony Lister. It has enjoyed steady organic growth since launching 13 years ago, and this latest announcement marks the next phase in the company’s development.

The firm says it has secured half of its order book already for 2015, and is forecasting a £25 + million turnover next year.
