MBNA offers helping hand to National Trust

The grounds of one of Britain’s most popular historic houses have been given a Spring spruce-up by a team of more than 140 volunteers from credit card lender MBNA.

Green-fingered staff from MBNA’s Customer Advocate Office (CAO) decided to offer a helping hand at Erddig, an 18-Century house set in 1,200 acres of country parks and Victorian gardens near Wrexham.

Over the course of four days, the team spent more than 550 hours painting fences, clearing footpaths and helping to make sure the historic house looks its finest.

Caroline George organised the project with assistance from CAO manager Gordon Mitchell and his team. Caroline said: “Erddig is a beautiful historic place but it needs an awful lot of up-keep to make sure it’s looking its best. The National Trust rely entirely on volunteers so it’s a case of many hands making light work.

“The feedback we got when we finished was fantastic and it’s always good for a team to get away from the office environment and tackle a community project. The whole team enjoyed the work and we’re looking for our next project already!”
