Adastra 111 manages 212,000 NHS111 calls over Easter bank holiday

Figures released today reveal that 212,000 calls to NHS111 were handled over the Easter bank holiday weekend by Advanced Heath & Care’s (Advanced’s) Adastra 111 patient management system, which is deployed by a wide variety of healthcare providers across England. This equates to one call every 1.6 seconds and is a 53% increase on Easter 2013 figures (138,730 calls).

Between Good Friday and Easter Monday when GP surgeries closed for the bank holiday, the Adastra 111 system managed 212,000 NHS111 calls with the highest volumes being on Good Friday and Easter Saturday in which 56,000 and 57,000 calls were received respectively.

Adastra 111 is a clinical patient management system specifically designed to allow NHS111 providers to fully triage patients on the first call and if required, send assessments on to services without the need for re-triaging.

Jim Chase, Managing Director, Advanced Health & Care, says “The latest figures highlight the vital role Adastra 111 plays in support of NHS111 services especially during bank holiday periods, where services experience a significant increase in calls due to extended GP surgery closures.”

NHS111 is a free-to-call single non-emergency number medical helpline operating in England.

Adastra 111 is one of the only fully compliant NHS111 systems in England that is also approved to access NHS Personal Demographics Service and the Summary Care Record.
