An easy commute is key to homeownership for city workers

Living and working in London may not always add up to home ownership. In the capital the average property price now exceeds £650,000 with less than 10 per cent of homes within reach of first time buyers*.

One regional housebuilder has seen an increase in London workers at all stages of life and the property ladder focusing their property search outside the M25 to find the ultimate work-life balance.

Sales Director of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, Elaine Stratford, says the solution for city workers could lie in one of the beautiful villages offering fast and direct train links into the capital.

“Purchasers buying outside the commuter belt can also enjoy far more house for their money as prices drop by between 20 and 40 per cent**. Our Chilworth Gate development in Haddenham, for example, is situated within five minutes’ walk from Haddenham and Thame Parkway station which boasts journey times to London Marylebone of less than 40 minutes. Workers can be at their desk within an hour of leaving the house without having to navigate through rush hour traffic or continue to pay high rents to live in the capital.

“We have seen a wide variety of purchasers through the doors here at Chilworth Gate, ranging from young professionals looking to take their first step on to the property ladder through to more mature couples looking to escape the bustle of the big city in their free time.

“Equally, new and established families are attracted to Haddenham with an excellent choice of both state and independent schools in this sought-after Buckinghamshire location.

“All can benefit from the range of independent boutiques, cafes and restaurants on the door step and further options close-by in High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Oxford and it is ideally located for road connections via the M40.

Persimmon Homes’ Chilworth Gate development in Haddenham is a collection of three and four bedroom houses and townhouses located in the sought-after Buckinghamshire village. Prices start from £439,950.

Currently, the housebuilder is offering the four-bedroom Plumpton house type as Home of the Week with a package including carpets throughout, integrated fridge/freezer, integrated dishwasher and turf to rear garden***. This package is advertised at £439,950 meaning buyers can use the Government-backed equity loan scheme, Help to Buy, which requires just a five per cent deposit.
