Taverners racing fundraiser a huge success
The Northumberland and Durham branch of the Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s largest sports-related charity, held a successful event at Gosforth Park Racecourse recently, which raised a significant amount of cash on the day to enable disabled and disadvantaged young people to access sport.
As sponsor of one of the afternoon’s races, regional chairman of the Taverners, Jamie Graham, presented Mr K Kirkup and Mrs T Galletley, owners of the winning horse, ‘My Name is Rio’ with a commemorative plaque.
Mr Graham said: “Although the Lord’s Taverners is a national charity, all the money raised in the region stays in the region. The money we raised is a great start to my fundraising efforts as the new regional chairman but I hope to raise a substantial amount more over the next three years.
“I would encourage any organisations that support young people with disabilities to contact the Lord’s Taverners to see how we might be able to help them.”
