Profit from Passion and Perseverance
Profit from Passion and Perseverance
A little over six years ago Brian Tinson spotted a need for electrical training designed around the individual needs of businesses and delivered on site in a real working environment. Most training in this field tended to be to a set formula and delivered at a training companies’ venue or conference centre, meaning extra cost and time when valuable employees were not available to the business.
In 2008 Brian took a leap of faith and put his belief into action. He assembled a well branded web site setting out how businesses could benefit from the training he would deliver and the basics from which bespoke courses could be assembled and Tinson Training made its first nervous steps into the marketplace. Although there were times when he wondered if he had made the right decision, the business grew steadily. Soon he had a client portfolio including Formula 1, Debenhams, BAE Systems, numerous NHS Trusts, Ricoh and The Royal College of Art, to name but a few. These clients found that the training Brian delivered was ideal for up-skilling staff in a variety of areas –maintenance and service engineers/technicians, production operators, project managers or those who simply need to be able to work safely around electrical equipment.
What was it that made this a tale of business success? Firstly Brian has a Yorkshireman’s determination not to be beaten combined with a personal ethic that would never let him deliver less than the best he possibly could. It’s a winning combination of passion and perseverance. Many will remember teachers who made learning come alive through their ability to share their enthusiasm for their subject. Companies return to Tinson Training because of this ability to engage trainees and communicate a real understanding of the skills relevant to their roles, the risks involved and how to avoid them. It gives them confidence in their abilities and an awareness of how methods could be improved. As Brian says, “It is really all about sharing knowledge, seeing that knowledge make people feel better about themselves and the way they perform their roles. The benefit to a business of confident staff, who can improve the way they work and handle problems as they arise, is very real.”
Now, with a packed training diary, Brian is tackling the challenge of increasing capacity without losing the core qualities that created that demand. This will be the next chapter in the story of an idea that became a business success.
