Enterprising College students get opportunity to develop next generation fast food idea
Students at Newcastle College are undertaking a real-life business development project lead by two prominent North East’ entrepreneurs.
Ammar Mirza and McDonalds’ franchisee Ahmed Khan will deliver enterprising students with a brief to develop their “Nanman” idea - a fast food concept based on the nan bread sandwich, or ‘nanwich’.
Students will need to research and develop the product, taking into account suppy chain, production and shelf-life, before applying for funding through a pitch.
The aim is to provide students with a real taste of what it is like to conceive, develop and operate an enterprise.
Ammar Mirza chairman and founder of Asian Business Connexions detailed the partnership developed by the two organisations: “ABC has been working with Newcastle College on a number of exciting initiatives, ranging from providing training to long-term unemployed, to up-skilling the employed workforce and all with significant success.
“Entrepreneurialism is at the heart of ABC and in discussions with the innovative Director of the Lifestyle Academy Rob Kleiser we came up with an opportunity for students to work on a real-live project.
“Not only will the work on all aspect of a business, developing a product through to launch, but they will also get the opportunity to work and potentially own a share of the business.
“This is the start of an annual enterprise activity that will lead onto the launch of various initiatives and businesses. This isn’t just a Dragons Den investment opportunity but a chance to join the dragons and work with them.
“Both Ahmed and I are really excited on working with the students and the College, and will be sharing with everyone the successful team. Customers will be able to sample the new products in planned pop-up food outlets in key locations.“
