Jamie comes Top in the World in Management Accountancy exam

Jamie McEachran, 22, from Portsmouth, has beaten the odds and achieved the highest mark in the world in the latest Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) exams.

Jamie, who is currently on the rotational graduate scheme in Barclays Investment Bank’s finance division, has come top in the world in the CIMA Financial Management Exam (F2), held in November last year. Jamie, who studied with BPP, achieved a score of 94 per cent, beating nearly 5,000 other students registered for the exam around the globe. He also sat two other of his professional exam papers at the same time, Enterprise Management (E2) and Performance Management (P2).

Jamie grew up in Portsmouth and attended Priory School and Havant College before going on to study Economics at Warwick University, graduating in 2012 with First Class Honours. His current role on the Barclays graduate scheme is in the Finance function, providing detailed financial analysis to key stakeholders within the Investment Bank.

To become a Chartered Management Accountant, students need to complete 10 professional qualification exams across four years requiring personal study and dedication. This is complemented by three years’ experience which can be gained whilst studying.

Jamie, said of his success: “ I am delighted to have done so well in my professional exams and winning the prize was fantastic. The exams were really tough and were hard work but I had a lot of support from both BPP, through which I studied, and also from my employer, Barclays Investment Bank. The qualification has given me not only the basic accounting skills but also helped me to understand the wider business context of my work.“

Sarah Ghosh, FCMA, CGMA, CIMA Central Southern England Chair, said:

“Jamie has shown fantastic dedication to come top in these professional business exams, and I’m sure his success will inspire other students to excel in the CIMA qualification. The CIMA qualification produces versatile professionals with breadth and depth of knowledge gained in practical business settings, and I wish Jamie every success as he continues his CIMA journey.”

Noel Tagoe, Executive Director, Education at CIMA, said:

“It is extremely pleasing to see that there are, once again, some excellent student performances from around the world. This highlights CIMA’s ethic, that dedication and hard work can produce exemplary results.”

CIMA runs a series of events for students, members and guests throughout the related area on a regular basis across the year. For further information visit www.cimaglobal.com/localevents
