Certas Energy scoops gold for its re-brand – and pushes on by expanding team

Certas Energy, the national fuel and lubricants distributor, has had its recent rebrand recognised and honoured after it scooped gold for the Best Internal Communications of a Rebrand category at Communicate magazine’s Transform Awards Europe.

Warrington-based Certas Energy operated as GB Oils until October 2013. Under the GB Oils brand, the company experienced a sustained and significant period of growth, strategically acquiring 28 fuel businesses over seven years. Every acquisition brought with it new team members with differing business cultures.

The company recognised the need for change and undertook a rebrand which saw it transform into Certas Energy.

Managing director, Paul Vian, said: “Last year the business underwent its biggest ever transformation with the launch of Certas Energy.

“It is a very exciting time for us and we are proud of the brand launch and most importantly the support we received from our colleagues. It is wonderful to see the whole team’s hard work being recognised at such a prestigious level.”

The company has also appointed Angus Ross as its new head of financial accounting, as it continues to cement its status as an industry leader.

Mr Ross, who lives in Glasgow, qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 and built up a career implementing, managing and developing large finance teams for multi-national companies.

His previous roles have seen him working for high profile corporates, including Diageo, Shell, Hilton Hotels, RBS and most recently Harkand, a private equity backed oil and gas support services organisation in Aberdeen.

His appointment will see him contribute to the development of the finance function at Certas Energy and his expertise will enable him to manage, develop and motivate a team of 50 staff via a number of line managers.

Paul Vian said: “The skills and knowledge Angus brings to the team, as well as his understanding of the fuel industry, makes him a valuable addition.

“As one of the UK’s leading independent distributors of fuels and lubricants, we are committed to always moving forward and welcoming new team members who will have a positive impact on the company.”

Angus Ross said: “It is a really exciting time to be joining Certas Energy and I am looking forward to the challenge and working with the existing team to progress the accounting processes, systems and controls to help support the continued growth of the organisation.”
