Community centre hits the jackpot with donation from Aspers Casino Newcastle

Members of Simonside Community Centre, Newcastle came together to celebrate the arrival of a brand new, state of the art television thanks to a generous donation from Aspers Casino Newcastle.

Local Councillors Sharon Pattison and George Pattison, joined Simonside Community Centre chair Eileen Hall and vice-chairs Dawn Allman and Joan Martin, to receive the gift from Darren Hedley, Campaigns Manager for Aspers Casino Newcastle.

The volunteer-run community centre, based in the Newbiggin Hall estate, provides local people with a huge range of services, everything from a gym, library, walkers club, and parent and toddler group.

The centre desperately needed a television so the community could come together to enjoy major events like the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The centre relies on donations and the continued support from local businesses so the offer of a brand new television from Aspers Casino Newcastle was greatly received.

Eileen Hall, chair of Simonside Community Centre said: “We’re extremely grateful to Aspers Casino for this generous donation. Without this kind of support we wouldn’t be able to provide the range of services the local community rely on. It’s a really positive message to send out to other organisations across the region that all support for volunteer-run programmes, however small, is greatly received and does make a difference.”

Darren Hedley, Campaigns Manager at Aspers Casino Newcastle said: “Simonside Community Centre is a fantastic resource for the local community; there are events and activities for people of all ages and abilities. Everyone that works here is a volunteer and everything they do is for the local community. Aspers Casino Newcastle is delighted to be able to support the centre and contribute to its future.”

Simonside Community Centre serves the residents of Woolsington Ward. It is a registered charity and works closely with organisations including Newcastle City Council and NHS to improve the quality of life for the hundreds of local people that use its services every day.
