Work starts on £6 million Castleford Metro infrastructure project
Construction and infrastructure company, Morgan Sindall, has started work on the new £6 million bus station in Castleford, West Yorkshire, for the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Metro.
Due to open in early 2015, Castleford’s new bus station will feature an enclosed waiting area, CCTV coverage, real-time information display and public toilets.
The new bus station replaces Castleford’s old Albion Street bus station which closed at the end of January 2014. Since then, preparatory work has been carried out, including demolition of the existing buildings and archaeological investigations into the site.
The main construction contract started in March 2014 when Morgan Sindall’s team moved onto the site to create the glass-walled facility, which will provide a safe and modern environment for bus users in the town.
Chris Brown, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “We’re very proud to have secured this project, one which will benefit the many residents and visitors to Castleford.
“Making a good first impression is vital to building a sense of civic pride and we’re sure this development will do just that for the town.”
