British made stove set up for export boom
A British designed and made wood burning stove is set to conquer Europe after setting record levels of environmental efficiency.
Ecco Stoves, manufactured in the West Midlands, are made from Silicon Carbide which allows very high internal temperatures to be achieved but the heat is then radiated over a long period of time and can keep a whole property warm.
Now the firm behind the stoves has completed six months of testing on two of its models and recorded efficiency levels which are well below stringent voluntary standards adopted by some European countries.
The testing work – which involved more than 150 firings – proved that the stoves achieved 88 per cent efficiency and carbon levels of 0.7, well below the 0.12 levels proposed for introduction by the EU in 2022.
David Ashmore, the managing director of Ecco Stoves, said: “We are delighted to have achieved these results after so much testing. It involved more than 150 firings and recalibrations but it has proved that our products are future proof in terms of environmental legislation and also gives great reassurance to our customers that they are buying a very environmentally efficient product.
“Some European countries adopt voluntary standards, but we will be well inside those for many years to come.
“Our major selling point are the heat storage benefits which provide long-term warmth and they have not been have not been affected,”
The two stoves – the 678EC and 730EC - will have their first airing to the public at the Hearth and Home show in Harrogate in June with models on live display.
The company produced its first prototype just five years ago but now has a range of stoves in four different sizes which are supplied across the continent, North America & Canada
Ashmore added: “Our European and North American sales are increasing but this will allow us to push on with export sales with added long-term confidence and look for new export marketplaces.
“We currently assemble our stoves in Kansas for the North American market, while they are shipped complete to more than three European countries at present.
“I think it is no coincidence that we are based in a centre of engineering and manufacturing excellence and have managed to break new ground in this way.”
