BioArmor™ launches a specially designed shock resistant and antibacterial phone case

A mobile phone case that kills 99.99 per cent of germs and bacteria is now available in the UK. BioArmor, which makes the cases, reports that the average phone case without antibacterial protection has more than 25,000 microbes (germs, virus’ & bacteria) per square inch, compared with just 49 per square inch on the average toilet seat.

The BioArmor case range currently for the iPhone 5/5s* and the Galaxy S4* includes a pink ribbon design to support breast cancer charity Pink Ribbon Foundation. BioArmor will donate 10 per cent of the profit from each pink case to the charity.

BioArmor phone cases incorporate silver-ion technology into products as an additive at the time of manufacture to provide life time protection rather than by adding a coating that can wear off. The technology provides continuous built-in antimicrobial protection for the expected lifetime of the product.

Invisible silver ions bind with microbes that come into contact with the surface and irreversibly disrupt their normal cell function which first stops them reproducing and finally kills them. The silver ions do not change the appearance of products they are integrated into, in any way or affect phone performance.

“Mobile phone users can share more germs than pictures, messages and status updates through their devices,” says John Shaw, managing director of BioArmor (Europe Ltd). “The need for anti-bacterial cases and covers for our gadgets is growing. The World Health organisation warns that germs are becoming resistant to antibiotics, so we all need to invest in helping to prevent their spread before the point of infection. Mobile phones users take their devices everywhere – kitchens, bathrooms, floors, transport – but typically don’t disinfect them and even risk damaging touch-screens if they do. With a BioArmor case, you have lasting inbuilt protection from germs you may encounter simply living your life.”

“The launch of the cases follows many months of research into the most effective way of creating an anti-bacterial product and getting the best product out there signed up on an exclusive supply contract. Tests by the Wall Street Journal of eight random mobile phones from an office that found “abnormally high numbers of coliforms, a bacteria indicating faecal contamination,” with about 2,700 to 4,200 units of the bacteria on each phone (drinking water should have less than one unit of the bacteria per half-cup). The bacteria could result in flu, conjunctivitis or diarrhoea.

Lisa Allen, Head of Corporate Fundraising at the Pink Ribbon Foundation says, “We have been astonished by the support and enthusiasm from the team at BioArmor and we are really looking forward to this new partnership. We expect the pink ribbon anti-bacteria phone cases to be a popular and sensible option and we are grateful to BioArmor for the amazing money which will be raised to fight breast cancer. We look forward to working with them to help fight this terrible disease.”

Distributed exclusively by Kondor in the UK, BioArmor phone cases cost £14.99 each and are available at Amazon UK, O2, Phones4U, Tesco Direct and EE. They are also 100 per cent recyclable.

* New cases will be introduced as selected new phone models are released.
